BESAKIH TEMPLE
Besakih temple is also known as Bali’s ‘Mother
Temple’. This temple sits over 1,000 metres high on the southwestern slopes of
Mount Agung, Bali’s largest volcano. It holds a very high spiritual value to the Hindu
Balinese. Pura Besakih temple consists of three
temples dedicated to the Hindu trinity.

This artistically designed temple is actually a unique
complex of over 80 separate temples that can be explored by the tourists,
including Pura Penataran Agung (the Great Temple of State). It
is believed that this nine-directional temple was built to protect the island
from evils. It is built in such a design that prayers can be done facing
towards northeast and Besakih. With 28 structures on terraces, it is surrounded
by amusing views of rice paddies, lush forests and streams.

in 1963 when the temple - believed to be saved by the gods - miraculously
survived a catastrophic volcanic eruption by Mount Agung.

PURA LEMPUYANG TEMPLE
Lempuyang
Temple or Pura Lempuyang Luhur is one of Bali’s oldest and most venerated
temples, which holds the oldest historical heritages in Bali. The temple is
located at the height of 1175 m above sea level, on the peak of Mount
Lempuyang. One has to take over 1,700 steps to reach the main temple on the top,
with several other temples on the way and hordes of long-tailed gray macaques
that inhabit the surrounding cool mountain forests.

whole loop of Pura Lempuyang Temple Bali takes around 4 hours. However, it’s
definitely worth the sore legs though; the views of Mount Agung, perfectly
framed in the split gates (often called Gateway to Heaven) from the top are

Although it is a bit far from other typical holiday

MOUNT BATUR
Every day in Bali's predawn darkness, several hundred visitors
take their feet out to trek up the 1,700-meter summit of Mount Batur to watch
the sun rising above the mist-shrouded mountains and the picturesque caldera
far below. Also known as Kintamani
Volcano, this sacred active volcano is one of the quaintest landscapes for
sightseeing in Bali. On the clear day, the panaromic views of its 13 sq km Batur caldera lake, which fills the
large part of the caldera, are soul-soothing.

A two to three hours of hiking along the well- marked
trails falls under easy category but sturdy hiking shoes and multi-layered
clothing is advised as the temperature can be relatively low at the top before
sunrise. Guided treks are also available which generally include a breakfast
with the Mt. Batur special eggs cooked by the steam from the active volcano.
This sunrise point was well worth getting up at 2 am for.

of Gunung Beratan, this 17th century built Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is
one of Bali's most picturesque temple complexes. Located amidst picturesque
scenery of cool highlands of central Bali, Pura Ulun Danu is surrounded by
water of Lake Beratan from all sides.
This temple complex is dedicated to Devi
Danu, the goddess of lakes but people also worship the main Hindu trinity
i.e. Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva.

the water levels rise, the thatched temples seem to float on its
surface, giving the pleasing views to the eyes. There is a Buddhist stupa built
on the entrance to the first courtyard, with figures of Buddha meditating in
the lotus position, reflecting the adoption of Buddhist beliefs by Balinese Hindus.
You
can also explore the meru (thatched shrines) at close range by hiring a canoe
and paddling out on the lake. The Bali Botanic Garden (Kebun Raya Bali) with its beautiful
bamboo forests, begonias, orchid collection, and medicinal plants, is also
worth a visit.

Sekumpul Waterfall, also renowned as “Aling-Aling
